Journey to the CrossFit Games and a Paleo BBQ Sauce Recipe
[scroll down for recipe]
What. A. Week.
I’m definitely feeling the aftermath of it. Bring on the coffee.
Last week, I randomly decided to buy tickets to the CrossFit Games. Maybe it wasn’t that random. I had tossed around the idea, but didn’t bite on it. Then Wednesday appeared and I pulled the trigger.
If you know me, you know I hate impulse decisions or spur-of-the-moment things. I have this need to feel overly prepared for what’s coming my way. Thus, decisions like this RARELY happen, especially at my direction. But it did.
So, I bought the tickets and immediately went into planning mode:
- Get the staple removed from my tire and my oil changed
- Pick up travel snack food
- Find a poncho
- Run to the bank to take out some cash
- Do all my “Saturday things” on Friday (clean the apartment, laundry, meal prep, etc.)
…..the list went on and on
But, come Friday I felt more than prepared and super excited to head up to Madison, WI to spend the day watching fitness and eating tasty (and way too expensive) food.
As I’m driving home Friday evening, with a headache and earache, and looking forward to getting to bed early …. $&*#!
My tire (that was just fixed) found a 5-inch piece of metal (that likened a ninja star) to slice open my tire.
Cue: mini-melt down.
(It’s too late in the evening to get my tire fixed, we’re leaving so early in the morning, now I can’t get to bed early, my plans are ruined, I just got this tire fixed, I don’t want to pay for this, etc…..etc….)
I actually punched my dashboard somewhere in this freak-out, too. And hurt my hand… lol. Serves me right for being crazy.
End all be all – we made it to Madison. Mark was able to put on my spare, calm me (kind of) down and my lovely parents lent me their car for the day.
After the initial decent of my emotions, I had one of the best days in Madison. It was sunny, watching the Games was exhilarating, seeing athletes I follow kick ass and really, just spending time away from home with friends made my heart so happy.
Lesson learned: everything will work out – maybe not how you planned, but in some fashion, it’ll all work out.
