Scroll down for my Spicy Sausage and Sweet Potato Soup

I’m going to keep this short and sweet today, because the topic doesn’t need much elaboration.

I saw this quote the other day:

There was a time where I thought I was the healthiest. I was working out 7 days a week (some of those two-a-days), I was eating protein shakes after my workouts, tracking my calories and macros and sustaining from situations that could potentially lead me to make “unhealthy” decisions; like dinner out with friends, ice cream dates or a glass or two of wine.

And the crazy thing was, I didn’t feel healthy at all.

I was so consumed with the thought of being healthy that I abstained from the things that once brought me a lot of joy.

Over the last year, I’ve really tried to make an effort to engage in the enjoyments of life – great food, wine, nights out, ice cream, friends, family and all the situations that come with.

And to be honest, I’ve never felt healthier. My mind is more clear (and riddled with less guilt), I don’t stress over making unhealthy decisions, I am mindful and practice moderation and I feel more happy and joy in being able to enjoy the things I may not have when I was so focused on the aesthetics, and confinement of my distorted definition of “health.”

Remember: being healthy involves your mind, spirit and heart – just as much as it involves your body. Sadness, guilt, anxiety will make you more unhealthy than any number of sweets or glasses of wine will…

So, cheers this holiday season to being the healthiest versions of ourselves – physically, mentally and emotionally!

Now – if you’re looking for a sweet and spicy, stick-to-your-bones soup … this is it. I pleasantly surprised myself (and Mark) with how tasty and comforting this soup was. It would be a perfect accompaniment to a holiday dinner or a quick reheat for lunch. Enjoy, this bad boy and stay warm!
